The thing about any kind of car accident is that many injuries aren't obvious until days or weeks later.

Three students were sent to the hospital when their school bus was struck by an SUV last week. According to the Palm Beach Sheriff's office, the SUV driver ran a stop sign – and West Palm Beach car accident lawyer Michael Steinger says the driver could potentially face liability in court.

The accident happened while the bus was on its way to a middle school on its morning route. A spokesperson for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said the three hospitalized children had minor injuries according to the Palm Beach Post.

Parents could potentially take action and bring the unnamed driver to court – and other families could join.

“The thing about any kind of car accident is that many injuries aren't obvious until days or weeks later,” said Steinger, who works to help accident victims receive compensation. “That's certainly true of whiplash, which we'd expect a lot of in a school bus with no seat belts. There will likely be more parents coming forward as kids wake up with difficulty moving.”

Steinger says that drivers who cause an accident could potentially be responsible for all injuries.

“In a bus with dozens of kids, that could be quite substantial,” he said. “But this part of our system exists to make sure accident victims aren't left buried under mountains of medical bills.”

“Anyone involved in a car accident should speak to an attorney,” Steinger says.

“It's important to know all of your options before you sign anything from an insurance company. A good lawyer will help you make sure you get everything you're legally owed.”
