A lot of patients come to me seeking just one of these two procedures. If an individual is requesting a rhinoplasty, I always explain how a chin augmentation can improve results and attain a more natural facial shape if they are a good candidate.

In a recent article published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, new research suggested that undergoing a combined rhinoplasty with a chin augmentation is the best way to assure aesthetically pleasing results for patients. Babak Azizzadeh, MD, FACS, and expert rhinoplasty surgeon in Beverly Hills agrees with the study, saying that facial balance is best achieved because the two facial features are very complimentary of one another.
“The nose and the chin share a very unique relationship. When symmetry is not achieved in this region, the entire dynamic of the face is compromised,” said Dr. Azizzadeh. “When I perform a rhinoplasty and chin augmentation for my patients, I pay careful attention to the tiny details that can improve symmetry.”
The study looked to follow up on the long-term results experienced by more than 90 patients who underwent both surgeries 3 years after they were performed. Research concluded that the combined approach lead to an immense increase in the happiness of patients towards their facial profile, achieving a harmonious and balanced outcome. As the study explained, a proportionate and attractive face can be greatly determined by the close relationship between the chin and the nose.
“Even with the performance of a successful rhinoplasty, without a balanced chin, the face can lack consistency,” said world-renowned facial plastic surgeon Dr. Azizzadeh.
At the Institute for Rhinoplasty & Nasal Reconstruction in Beverly Hills, expert rhinoplasty and chin augmentation surgeon Dr. Azizzadeh believes that in many cases, a rhinoplasty and chin augmentation performed together can produce many benefits for the patient. Aside from only providing a more pleasing aesthetic look, undergoing the simultaneous procedures only requires one recovery period as opposed to two should the patient decide later on to improve facial symmetry with one or the other.
“A lot of patients come to me seeking just one of these two procedures. If an individual is requesting a rhinoplasty, I always explain how a chin augmentation can improve results and attain a more natural facial shape if they are a good candidate,” said Los Angeles rhinoplasty surgeon Babak Azizzadeh, MD, FACS.
