Dr. Doane Rising, Celebrating 15 Years of Therapy

Learn more about Dr. Rising's therapy methods and background.

Dr. Doane Rising has seen a lot of changes in healthcare since she graduated from the University of Washington in 1994. After several years of practice in medicine, she set up her own practice as a psychiatrist, opening a small office in Seattle's historic Belltown neighborhood. Rooted in traditional methods, Dr. Rising is a longtime practitioner of the psychoanalytic method. This analytical method of therapy requires working with patients individually and Dr. Rising set up her office accordingly to be a welcoming and open environment for patient therapy.

In an effort to help her patients feel more comfortable, she commissioned Randall Scott Thomas, a local furniture designer, to create a custom couch specifically for psychoanalytic therapy. Mr. Thomas was so thrilled with the design that Doane created that he began to sell the couch as a feature product and it now has a home in therapist’s offices around the country. The original can still be found in Dr. Rising's office, and has served as a backdrop for numerous therapy sessions.

When Dr. Rising first entered practice 15 years ago, patients relied primarily on phone calls to schedule appointments and ask questions. Today, the world has shifted to the online space and many people feel more comfortable communicating through the Internet. Admittedly, Dr. Rising hasn't been a fast adopter of online media, but, now, in her 15th year of practice, she has made steps to have a greater online presence, including launching a new Facebook page and creating a profile on leading psychiatrist directory, Psychology Today.

With a focus on patient’s relationships, both with others and themselves, Dr. Rising works to help people manage their emotional well-being. Dr. Rising has particular experience in treating anxiety, depression and family conflicts. Dr. Rising received her primary medical education at the University of Washington (1994) and is certified to provide evaluation and management for medication.
