We applaud Mayor Emanuel’s forward thinking on healthier choices, says Grow Co-Founder Chris Wyland.

Grow Vending, a pioneer in the healthy vending industry, is working in coordination with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s healthy vending challenge. "With multiple operators in the Chicagoland area, we continue our goal of providing healthy, balanced vending choices to residents throughout the city and suburbs. We applaud Mayor Emanuel’s forward thinking on healthier choices,” says Grow Co-Founder Chris Wyland.

Grow Vending is partnering with similar projects and initiatives throughout the country. "We are always searching for opportunities to provide healthier vending choices. Since our inception, the number of requests for machines by locations implementing wellness programs has increased year after year,” adds Wyland.

Under Mayor Emanuel’s healthy vending initiative that began in January, 40 percent of vending machines in Chicago now carry healthy snacks.

“Once in place, the City’s new vending machines will make it easier than ever before for City employees and the public to make healthier choices,” said Mayor Emanuel. “We are challenging all of Chicago’s businesses and organizations to do the same for their employees and visitors, so that people across the city have greater ability to make healthy choices.”

The challenge guidelines are divided in to three categories based on the percentage of healthy snacks available in each vending machine- Gold (100 percent), Silver (75 percent) and Bronze (50 percent). These guidelines are based on the American Heart Association’s healthy food procurement standards, which Grow Vending exceeds.

Grow Vending’s licensed dieticians on staff create custom menus for the machines to cater to each specific location, taking in to account the most strict nutritional guidelines. Grow’s healthy selection of snacks bans ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and artificial sweeteners. As a resolution to the concern surrounding high-calorie, sugary drinks, Grow machines also offer natural juices, sodas, teas and other healthy alternatives.

Grow Vending and it’s local Chicago operators are doing their part to make sure that their machines are placed throughout the community, offering snacks and drinks within the healthy vending challenge criteria.

An operator in the Chicago area represents Grow Vending through her business C.S. Healthy Vending, INC. She trusts that her community will greatly benefit from the healthy vending challenge and sees Grow as a great opportunity to participate. “I think that all of the businesses are responding to it very well. They’ve takeno n to purchasing the healthy snacks over the unhealthy ones. People are excited about, and everyone seems to be accepting the challenge.
