Our festival would be a very complimentary environment with his peers sharing in what he’s worked so hard to promote over his career-a healthful way to live.

The Woodstock Fruit Festival is proud to extend an invitation to Scott Jurek to attend the Festival this August. Jurek is an accomplished ultramarathon runner who wrote a book about his life and career called 'Eat and Run.' In this book he advocates a vegan diet, which he believes plays a factor in his athletic accomplishments. His accomplishments range from being the 24-hour American record holder to winning the Spartathlon in Greece three times in a row. He believes that following a plant-based diet provides the right type of fuel for his body to run on during those long races. Michael Arnstein, founder of the Festival, believes that Jurek would benefit from attending the week-long event to learn about a fruitarian diet ‘Scott’s been running for a very long time, and we’d like to invite him to take a rest and enjoy some fresh fruits and vegetables with us.’
Part of Jurek’s passion for running is done in an effort to discover what is possible. Jurek wants to see what the human body is capable of, and power it by eating healthy foods. Arnstein shares the same vision as Jurek. He wants to see what is possible when people are educated about food, nutrition and exercise. The Woodstock Fruit Festival provides classes, lectures and demonstrations about these topics. ‘Our festival would be a very complimentary environment with his peers sharing in what he’s worked so hard to promote over his career-a healthful way to live. We hope he will join us.’ Arnstein believes that Jurek would have a lot to contribute at the Festival in regards to being an athlete on a vegan diet and help bring awareness to the importance of making healthy choices.
The Woodstock Fruit Festival strives to address the many health advantages of eating fruit-based as well as environmental benefits. The festival strongly believes that one of the best things you can do for your own health and the health of the Planet is to eat more fruit! Some of the speakers for the 2013 festival include well known raw vegan athletes, and health pioneers: best-selling health author Dr. Douglas N. Graham, champion trail runner Tim Van Orden, founders of one of the popular raw food websites 30BananasADay.com, YouTube favorite Dan ‘The Man’ McDonald, Tony Wright who is an author in the evolutionary scientific community, internationally-published fruitarian author Anne Osborne, and expert on children’s diet and nutrition Karen Ranzi. Festival speaker and 30+ year veteran fruitarian gymnast Robert Lockhart says ‘we live in a world where the human form is taking on ever-increasing dimensions and obesity, heart disease, and cancer rates are growing at alarming rates. The need for a healthy, ethical, and sustainable diet has never been higher. If you want to die young but as late as possible, embrace the Fruitarian Lifestyle!’
