Marion Brooks, host of NBC Chicago's THE TALK, interviewed author Amy Kite on her recently released book, "Divorce: WHAT ABOUT ME?" Striking an emotional chord, Kite revealed insights from her own children through the challenges of her divorce that inspired her to help others through the book.

Recently released for children ages to 9 to help take the "ouch" out of divorce. Helping both kids and their parents gain perspective on the process of divorce.

I was inspired to write the book by the challenges, fear and frustrations that my own kids experienced during my divorce.

As divorce continues to affect more and more children, Amy Kite’s timely children’s book on divorce is striking a chord with kids, parents and even a local NBC TV anchor. Last week, Kite appeared on NBC Chicago’s THE TALK, hosted by Marion Brooks, to discuss her book “Divorce: What About Me?” Brooks was moved by the book and wanted to have Kite on her show to discuss this difficult and often painful topic.

Brooks said the unique language and colorful graphics drew her attention to this sweet and comforting tale. “Divorce: What About Me?” is a rhyming tale accompanied by colorful graphic illustrations, targeted towards children ages three to nine. The book reminds kids that much will stay the same in their lives, even as they are part of this great change. It also aims to comfort children and help them to sort out the various emotions they may feel when mom and dad decide to separate.

Drawing on her own experiences with her three children during her divorce, Kite reiterates throughout the book that mom and dad will always love you, even though they are apart. She chose to focus on writing a book for children about this topic, which is close to her heart. Kite says, “It is so personally rewarding to me having parents tell me that their children want to read this book night after night. They have shared that they have conversations together about their feelings and fears during this difficult time.”

The book’s illustrator and publisher, Judy Kaplan, is also passionate about this subject, as she, too, is a mom who is divorced. Additionally, she is a therapist and has counseled many parents and children about the subject of divorce.

The book, retailing for $18.95, is published in Chicago by Renaissance Communications (renaissance-communications.com), and is distributed through Amazon, local bookstores, mediation firms, therapists and self-help organizations. It is also available on Kite’s website: http://www.amyleekite.com. It is currently being offered at a special introductory price of $15.95.
