Yumi Media advises newly inducted vegetarians to plan their diets ahead of time to remain consistent in getting well-balanced nutrient intake.

According to Silver City Sun-News, most vegetarian diets are lower in fat and cholesterol, which can result in weight loss and can decrease the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and other illnesses. Many vegetarian foods have sufficient or high calories. Some of these foods include grains like bread, rice, pasta and tortillas as well as beans, nuts, milk, yogurt, cheese and fruit.

Silver City Sun-News reports that a vegetarian diet requires planning to “make sure you're getting the right amount of nutrients,” adding that many vegetarians make the common mistake of replacing meat with grains and cheese.

According to the article, there are better replacements to meat than high-fat cheeses and high caloric value grains, including all types of beans, including black, kidney, lentils and chickpeas; soy products like tofu, soy patties and soy milk; and nuts, including almonds, pecans, peanuts and walnuts. With any diet, make sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, since they contain many essential vitamins and minerals, urges the article.
