The Harlem Shake is an internet video phenomenon where a group of people perform a comical dance to a part of American DJ and producer Baauer’s song “Harlem Shake.

A Harlem Shake video usually starts with one person who is wearing a mask or helmet dancing solo to the beginning of the “Harlem Shake” song while surrounded by a group of people who appear oblivious to the dancing individual. When the bass drops, the video cuts to the same group of people dancing spastically while wearing crazy costumes and swinging props.

Wikipedia states that this internet phenomenon began on February 2nd of this year when five teenagers from Queensland, Australia known on YouTube as The Sunny Coast Skate uploaded their own version of a video by Youtube comedy vlogger Filthy Frank where several costumed people danced to the song "Harlem Shake" by Baauer. The video quickly went viral.

Other notable versions of the Harlem Shake have been performed by the Miami Heat, WWE Wrestlers and on Saturday Night Live and the Simpsons television programs.
