Eastern hair salon Fatal Attraction has beaten stiff competition from around the region to take part in a prestigious contest run by L’Oréal next month.

Stylists from the Colchester and Sudbury-based salons submitted four photographs to the L’Oréal Colour Trophy organisers, highlighting their technical expertise and fashion awareness on male and female models. Out of more than 1,000 entries, they have been given two entries in the Colour Trophy category and two in the Men’s Image section at the regional event on Monday, April 8 in Cambridge.

Now, the stylists will have to complete two model looks live in just 45 minutes to demonstrate their knowledge of catwalk trends and technical skills, alongside 61 other salons from across the Eastern region.

Salon owner Des Webb, who runs Fatal Attraction with his wife Tracie, said his team was very excited to be taking part in the competition. “Tracie and I, plus our stylists Craig Clark, Dawn Coppock, Jess Davies and Emma Keeble are overjoyed at being chosen to compete.

“Our creative team has been following catwalk trends very closely and has worked hard to achieve the looks that caught the eyes of the selection team. We know how talented and creative our stylists are, and it is great that their hard work has been recognised.”

He added: “Taking the images was a real family and community affair. Our 16-year-old son Reece took the pictures while all the models were local clients; thank you to Tom Driscoll, James Dodds, Becka Reynolds and Chloe Prince.

“The winning looks were completed at a photo shoot at North Street Studios, where the owner Joe Fairs offered his studios and equipment and printed the images for the entry. So this year is extra special for us - it has shown that even in a tough economic climate, things can be achieved when communities pull together and give up their time. Thank you to everyone involved.”

The regional final is one of seven highly-anticipated events taking place across the country, hosted by Zoe Hardman who is best known for presenting Take Me Out: The Gossip alongside Mark Wright. Fatal Attraction and the other competitors will be judged by some of the nation’s most acclaimed hairdressers including Trevor Sorbie.

Trevor said: “It’s an amazing achievement to make it to this stage. The regional finals have an amazing atmosphere and it’s great to bring talented hairdressers from all over the region under one roof. What turns my head and captures my attention is when all the elements come together - a great model with styling and makeup that work flawlessly with the cut and colour – an overall look that appears effortless.”

The six winners from the Eastern event will then compete in the grand final on June 3 at the Grosvenor House in Park Lane, London. The ultimate prize is A Year of Dreams – an exciting mix of courses, creative overseas events, national media exposure and glamorous fashion shoots.
