Knowledge is power, and the more they know about the ingredients in the foods they eat and the potential benefits or detriments of those foods, the better decisions they’ll be able to make.

Sprout Healthy Vending’s newest partner and operator, Carol Welch, is going to have a big impact on the wellness of people in the Allen, Texas area.
Carol Welch saw Sprout as a chance to educate people on the importance of nutrition and balanced diets. As a nutritionist and certified holistic health coach, she is passionate about teaching others how to improve their health.
“I want to reach out to as many people as possible with the message ‘you are what you eat!’ It’s great to work with individuals and small groups, but providing healthy snacks and beverages (and education to go along with them) to a much wider audience is very appealing,” explains Welch. “Anyone who wants to make a difference in the health of others wants to reach the masses. I see this as a way to do that.”
A mom of two teenagers, Carol has been mindful of the foods she introduces to them, but understands that kids love to snack.
“I always cringed when my kids begged for a snack out of a vending machine with nothing but junk, and I wished that there were healthier options to choose from. Now there are, and I can’t wait to get them out there so that parents can feel good about buying a snack for their kids,” she says.
With Sprout machines in schools in neighboring McKinney, Texas, Carol hopes that the Allen school district will recognize their impact and want to be a part of the program as well. She sees the youth as an ideal target customer for her healthy vending business and believes implementing good habits at a young age is what will turn around our current obesity crisis.
“I am especially passionate about starting with younger people. Knowledge is power, and the more they know about the ingredients in the foods they eat and the potential benefits or detriments of those foods, the better decisions they’ll be able to make,” voices Welch.
She describes Allen as a generally healthy community, and explains that it is open to any opportunity for improvement. “Awareness of the growing epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and other degenerative diseases is growing rapidly. Americans, especially educators and city leaders, are motivated to do what they can to make a positive impact in this area.”
Sprout Co-Founder Chris Wyland states, “Carol’s decision to further her practice as a nutritionist and get involved with a hands-on, health-promoting business is inspiring, and makes the Sprout team that much more excited to work with her. Her knowledge and experience is invaluable.”
To conclude, Carol Welch is confident in the market need for nutrition on the go, and is excited to offer an alternative to the junk food currently available.
“Anyone that is interested in his or her health and wellness is a target customer. Parents are especially interested in feeding their children good food, and many young people are starting to realize that what they eat affects their performance, mood and weight. People can now feel good knowing that they can get a quality snack or drink product from our machines.”
