Author and peace activist writes about his true life experiences of love and terror in the Middle East.

For most Americans, the Middle East seems so far away. It’s easy to listen to news bulletins about the fighting in the Middle East and then just brush it off. But Dr. Frank Romano has dedicated his life to a different type of fighting; he is putting his life on the line. Love and Terror in the Middle East, 3rd Edition (World Audience Publishers) is a memoir of an expert on the Middle East conflict as well as of a man working in the field, face-to-face with people from every faction, including extremists on both sides.

“I was recently in Tel Aviv, Israel, when the shrill of sirens shook the air and we were herded into a bomb shelter,” says the peace activist. “While we were in the shelter we could hear loud explosions overhead and were told that Palestinian missiles from Gaza had been intercepted and exploded in mid-air by the Israeli defense forces.” Additional bombing strikes are threatened.

“A few days later I was leading a peace/freedom march/dialogue in the Old City of Jerusalem near the Wailing Wall and Al-Aqsa Mosque when I was suddenly surrounded by Israeli police and arrested,” he continues. “That abruptly ended the event as the police unceremoniously escorted me to police headquarters. I was then subjected to a grueling two-hour interrogation and constant threats.”

His fight is to help Palestinians, Israelis, Muslims, Jews, Christians and people of all faiths work together toward peace. Often facing arrest, imprisonment, drawn weapons and chaotic crowds, Romano marches on with his message of hope and love. But he doesn’t emerge unscathed. His personal life became as entangled and difficult as the situation he was committed to overcome.

In Love And Terror in the Middle East, Romano brings the reader into the larger story and the personal one. Currently in the United States, Romano is planning several speaking engagements and a book tour. This 3rd Edition includes a new chapter titled “Return to Killing Fields.” It recounts the aftermath of the murder of Juliano Mer-Khamis, peace activist, in the Jenin Refugee Camp and the author’s recent return to uncover the truth buried deep within the shrouds of his friend’s mysterious death.

Frank Romano earned a PhD at University of Paris I, Panthéon Sorbonne, and an advanced degree at Golden Gate University, San Francisco. At present, he teaches law, literature, history and philosophy of law at the University of Paris Ouest.
