This culture of ‘second screening’ is becoming increasingly common

A BBC World News Survey of 3,600 digital device owners has revealed that 83% of tablet owners use their device whilst watching TV.

The survey found that people respond to advertising across all screens and one in seven users indicated they responded to a mobile advertisement in the past four weeks, while responses to TV and desktops were 1 in 5 and 1 in 4 respectively.

The research also found that tablet owners also watch more TV news not less and that 43% of tablet owners consume more TV than they did five years ago.

Ben Austin, Managing Director at SEO Positive, has responded to the data with interest:

“This culture of ‘second screening’ is becoming increasingly common and people will often browse their tablets whilst watching television. It is encouraging to see that advertising was widely responded to among all platforms and that businesses can have a good chance of getting responses from paid advertising.”
