Two Week Trial Involved the 2010 Accident that Killed Tiffany Paregien

A jury in Bakersfield, CA awarded the family of Tiffany Paregien $15 million after Ms. Paregien and her mother were killed in a hit-and-run accident by a big rig hauling two trailers of produce at Panama Road and Union Avenue.

The accident occurred just two days after Christmas while the women were pedestrians with the right-of-way in a crosswalk. Tiffany Paregien died after being transported to Kern Medical Center. She was 28 years of age and the mother of two young children. The case is Paregien v Perez dba E&M Trucking (Case No. S-1500-CV-272703 DRL).

"Tiffany left behind two beautiful children and this verdict will help provide for their future well-being," said partner Ricardo Echeverria of Shernoff Bidart Echeverria Bentley LLP. "This terrible tragedy could have been averted, but this verdict will allow for some relief for the family and hopefully some measure of closure," stated Echeverria.

Echeverria, along with partner Scott Howry of Young Wooldridge LLP and associate Danica Dougherty of Shernoff Bidart Echeverria Bentley LLP, represented Tiffany's children in this action.
"I'm proud that we were able to help this family receive some restitution," added Howry. "While we are ecstatic that the jury sided with the family, our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to them."

The jury found Antonio Oliva responsible for killing Ms. Paregien while in the course and scope of his work for Emiliano Perez and E&M Trucking. The truck Mr. Oliva was driving when Ms. Paregien and her mother were killed was owned by Mr. Perez and E&M Trucking.
