Health sector demand has been going through the roof for quite some time now. There is an incredible amount of opportunity right now for those in the health industry.

The health industry continued to be a strong area of job growth, adding 32,000 jobs in February, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. The job report data corresponded with a spike in health care-related hiring on Hound.com.
The health sector added 32,000 jobs in February, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics job report. There was a notable expansion in jobs gains for ambulatory health care services, which added 14,000 jobs last month. Jobs in nursing and residential care facilities grew by 9,000, while hospitals added another 9,000 jobs.
As a sizeable portion of the U.S. population ages, enters retirement, and becomes increasingly reliant on the medical services, there is considerable concern that the health industry will be unprepared to handle the spike in demand. The health sector has been a consistently bright area of employment for the past few years, and although individuals are entering the market en masse, there are still fears that the number of employees entering the workforce will not be enough to enough to handle the number of Americans expected to enter the health system. The issue of how to handle an influx of aging baby boomers has been compounded by recent health care reform that expands the number of individuals covered under the country’s health care system.
Hospitals have been increasing staff and vamping up their hiring efforts, as seen in the number of healthcare openings on Hound.com, a leading job search website. The site listed close to 163,000 openings in the health sector as of the time that this press release was written. The greatest demand within health care was for pharmacy technicians, which had close to 2,000 openings; physical therapists, which had 1,800 openings; and occupational therapists, which had 1,200 openings.
“Health sector demand has been going through the roof for quite some time now,” said Harrison Barnes, CEO of Hound.com. “There is an incredible amount of opportunity right now for those in the health industry. At the same time, employers are still having trouble finding qualified workers with the right training and experience.”
