April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Attorney Charles Boyk urges drivers to recognize the dangers of multitasking while behind the wheel, and shares the National Safety Councils Distracted Driving Awareness events.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, as reported by the National Safety Council (NSC). The purpose of bringing awareness to distracted driving is to urge drivers to stop using their cell phones while behind the wheel, whether the phone is handheld or hands-free. The National Safety Council wants to bring attention to the fact that there are dangers to having a conversation on the phone while on the roadway due to the cognitive distraction the brain experiences. Many think that texting is the only issue at hand, but the NSC says that is not the case.

Attorney Charles Boyk announces his support of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, asking drivers to discontinue multitasking behind the wheel. He explained, “I see numerous car accident victims throughout the year that have both minor and major injuries. One thing that is common trend among these victims is the cause of their car accident, which often involves a cellular device. Multitasking behind the wheel is something that has become commonplace in our nation, but we need to change that. No phone call or text is more important than your life, or the life of another individual.”

The National Safety Council has provided a pledge for those in support of Distracted Driving Awareness Month to sign. By signing this pledge, you are promising to refrain from using your cell phone while driving, whether it be to hold a conversation or to text. The NSC is also holding a free webinar on April 10th that will explain the myth of multitasking, and Attorney Boyk recommends joining in on the event.

“With 25-percent of car accidents caused by cell phone use, each and every individual that takes the pledge and informs others of the dangers that multitasking brings, equates to more lives being saved. Share the NSC site with friends, family, and co-workers, and urge them to take part in the awareness. You can help to save lives with every new person you inform!”
