Today’s high school issues mixed with ancient tales in new novel, "The Kindling Muse"

As many as 20 percent of all students grades 9-12 suffer from bullying, reports the CDC- and that’s only one of the many problems high school students face on a daily basis.

Chelsey Guy, a high school senior from Colombus, Ga., has suffered significant struggles in her mere 18 years of life. Rather than let them bring her down, she channels these challenges into inspiration for other young adults in her new novel, The Kindling Muse.

The Kindling Muse is set in a modern day high school with modern day issues. The story follows a young girl struggling with bullying, health issues, violence in school, foster care and a flawed education system.

Within the story, Guy adds a heavy dose of mythological flare: recurring dreams, mystery cures that come at a price, an unexplainable draw to fire, love, betrayal and the question of fate versus choice.

“I have experienced a lot of hardship in school,” says Guy. “I decided I wanted to share my struggles with other young people, but I wanted to be creative with the story; that is why I have thrown my passion for Greek mythology into the mix.”
