Shoulder injuries can be very painful and often prevent people from living a healthy, active lifestyle.
Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) April 16, 2013
La Peer Health Systems is pleased to announce the launch of the Shoulder Surgery Center of Excellence, a sub-division of our Beverly Hills surgery center devoted to the comprehensive management and advanced surgical treatment of shoulder injuries.
The Shoulder Surgery Center of Excellence boasts a highly skilled team of orthopedic surgeons, educated and trained at some of the most prestigious medical institutions in the country. Patients treated at the state-of-the-art facility receive the most advanced care for chronic shoulder conditions, such as osteoarthritis and biceps tendonitis, as well as for acute injuries including shoulder dislocation or separation.
“Shoulder injuries can be very painful and often prevent people from living a healthy, active lifestyle,” explained co-director and board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Eric Millstein. “Our goal is to provide the optimal relief and long-term recovery for each patient, through a unique and highly individualized treatment approach.”
According to Dr. Millstein, the complexity and mobility of the shoulder joint makes it highly susceptible to a variety of injuries. The first line of treatment for shoulder pain or minor injury is typically conservative, including anti-inflammatory medication, rest, and physical therapy. However, shoulder surgery may become necessary if pain persists or an injury impairs mobility.
“In the past, shoulder surgery might have been considered a major procedure,” said Dr. Steven Meier, co-director of the Shoulder Surgery Center of Excellence. “Now, many of the treatments to relieve chronic pain or repair a damaged part of the shoulder can be performed arthroscopically.”
Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that has several advantages over traditional open surgery. The technique involves the insertion of a high-tech device called an arthroscope through small incisions around the shoulder. The arthroscope can transmit live video-feed from within the joint to a visual display in the operating room.
As leaders in the field of minimally invasive shoulder surgery, the doctors at the Shoulder Surgery Center of Excellence routinely perform arthroscopy on an outpatient basis, enabling patients to return home within 24 hours of surgery. By minimizing the damage done to surrounding tissue, arthroscopy can reduce post-operative pain, lower the risk of complications, and accelerate patients' recovery following shoulder surgery.
The Shoulder Surgery Center of Excellence is directed by two renowned orthopedic surgeons, Eric Millstein, MD and Steven Meier, MD. Seven equally talented surgeons, including the current chief of orthopedic medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, perform shoulder procedures at our Beverly Hills surgery center. Our board-certified orthopedic and sports medicine physicians include Joseph Isaacson, MD; Melvin Nutig, MD; Peter Newton, MD; Andrew Weiss, MD; Jason Snibbe, MD; Sonu Ahluwalia, MD; and Rajan Patel MD. Each surgeon is expertly trained in the most advanced reconstructive and minimally invasive shoulder procedures.
