The OpenFlow protocol has proven itself in real-world SDN deployments by leading companies, such as Google and Facebook. Now we’re giving OpenFlow 1.3 a high-performance boost.
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (PRWEB) April 15, 2013
At the Open Networking Summit 2013, NoviFlow Inc. announced the availability of NoviSwitch® 1124 and 1248, the industry’s first switches that support the OpenFlow™ 1.3 standard and are capable of achieving speeds of up to 200 gigabits per second (Gbps). The move positions the company as an early leader in Software-Defined Networking (SDN), the network optimization technology that brings the benefits of network virtualization and programmability to large data centers, network operators, cloud and financial service providers.
“The OpenFlow protocol has proven itself in real-world SDN deployments by leading companies, such as Google and Facebook. Now we’re giving OpenFlow 1.3 a high-performance boost,” said Dominique Jodoin, president and chief executive officer of NoviFlow Inc. “At NoviFlow we deliver high-performance OpenFlow switching solutions for today’s network hungry applications such as cloud computing, SDN, and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). Our products combine the benefits of virtualization and programmability with network processors that can handle complex IP flows. This makes it possible for data centers to keep up with today’s exponentially growing networking demands.”
“Stronger definition of network behavior in software is a growing trend, and open interfaces are going to lead to faster innovation,” says Dan Pitt, executive director of the Open Networking Foundation. “We are excited to be joined by leading global companies to help develop and implement advanced networking capabilities for today’s operators and enterprises.”
Inside NoviSwitch® 1124 and NoviSwitch® 1248
The NoviSwitch 1124 and NoviSwitch 1248 are the first switches to provide early adopters of SDN with commercial-grade, high-performance OpenFlow 1.3 switching solutions that run at speeds of 100 Gbps and 200 Gbps, respectively.
The NoviSwitch product line is built on the NP-4 network processor platform from EZchip Semiconductor which provides superior switching performance and makes these products easily upgradable to support newer versions of the OpenFlow standard as they are gradually released.
Key features of the NoviSwitch 1124 and 1248 include:
- A high-performance system that features the NoviWare® 200 switching software, including support and implementation of OpenFlow 1.3 required features:
- IPv6 support
- Extensible match support
- Extensible ‘set field’ packet rewriting support
- Extensible context expression in ‘packet-in’
- Provider Backbone Bridging tagging
- Full support of the OpenFlow 1.1 specification
- Additional non-OpenFlow features:
- Packet processing option
- Improved Command Line Interface (CLI) configuration
- Easy installation - Designed for quick set up in any data center environment in a compact 1U box
- Dynamic configuration loading and reporting via XML
- Proven performance - Lab tested by a tier one systems integrator
The company will be demonstrating the high-performance capabilities of the NoviFlow switching solution in the company’s booth #406 at the Open Networking Summit, April 15th-17th, 2013. Visitors to the booth can experience the processing power of the NoviWare® 200 switching software running on the company’s NoviKit® 200 trial switching platform.
NoviWare® 200 switching software is available for licensing and commercial purchase on the NoviKit® 200 trial switching platform today. The NoviSwitch® 1124 and NoviSwitch® 1248 switches will be available for commercial deployments starting in the third quarter of 2013. For more information please see: http://www.noviflow.com
