Schindler Elevator Corporation

Schindler Elevator Corporation has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract with University Health Systems to supply and install 27 energy-efficient, machine room-less Schindler 400AE elevators for the Health Systems’ expansion project. The elevators are being installed at a new six-story Clinical Pavilion on the Robert B. Green campus in downtown San Antonio and at a new 10-story tower at University Hospital in the South Texas Medical Center. The $899.4 million Capital Improvement Program is the largest construction project in Bexar County history. Schindler will also provide maintenance for all of the elevators in the University Health System facilities in San Antonio.

Energy Efficient and Eco-Friendly

Demonstrating good stewardship, University Health System is seeking Gold certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Schindler 400AE elevator system will help contribute to the LEED points required. By using permanent magnet motor technology, the efficiency of the elevator system’s hoisting machine is increased, allowing for reduced energy consumption. In addition, the Schindler 400AE’s Power Factor 1 regenerative drive reduces energy consumption considerably in comparison to conventional applications and re-circulates energy back into the building’s electric system.

“We are excited to work with University Health System on this historic and sustainable expansion project,” said Greg Ergenbright, president, Schindler Elevator Corporation.

Perkins + Will is the architect for the University Hospital project and RTKL Associates and Overland Partners are the architects for the Clinical Pavilion project. Construction Managers at Risk Zachry Vaughn Layton and Bartlett Cocke will oversee the University Hospital and Clinical Pavilion projects, respectively.
