Worldwide Aeros Corp. (Aeros) announced today five major technology acceleration efforts underway to support the production of ML866 (66-ton cargo payload) and ML868 (250-ton cargo payload) Aeroscraft variants. To create the most effective vertical-takeoff-and-landing (VTOL) cargo transport aircraft in the world, Aeros is continuing the development of new technologies to ensure that the advanced lighter-than-air (LTA) aircraft stays in front of its competitors for decades.

Numerous technology programs are concurrently progressing under Pasternak’s leadership to ensure the Aeroscraft innovation is both affordable to build and to operate, as well as reliable and effective, when soon establishing the VTOL air cargo market for the 21st Century. These programs are ultimately being implemented to retain and further establish strategic competitive advantages over market entrants, and include:
Improved Control-of-Static-Heaviness (COSH) – While COSH is proprietary and revolutionary, Aeros is currently developing an improved COSH system for the Aeroscraft ML866. The program is focused on weight reduction as well as reducing acquisition, operating and support costs, while simultaneously improving performance of the COSH buoyancy management system for rapid and controlled Helium management that enables true VTOL flight at full payload.
Internal Cargo Handling System – Aeros is continuing refinement of its proprietary integrated cargo handling system to minimize loading and unloading time and increase delivery speed, to facilitate needed usage scenarios.
Vehicle Management Systems Integrated Technology for Affordable Lifecycle Costs (VITAL) – New fly-by-wire technology and components will bring all flight, engine and utility controls into distributed common processors through a modern fiber optic network. The benefits of VITAL include reductions in weight, cost, and aircrew workload.
Structure Technology – Aeros is also continuing to refine lightweight 3D structures with the goal of further reducing their cost and weight. This structure technology enhancement will provide increased cargo payload capacity for Aeroscraft clients and end users.
Open Systems Avionics (OSA) – The Aeroscraft is undergoing avionics integration, employing open systems standards used by the commercial industry, as well as hardware and software components such as high speed networks, processors and real-time operating systems. The benefits of OSA include cost reduction, increased capability and greater tolerance for parts obsolescence.
The Aeroscraft is able to compress inert helium for in-flight ballasting using a (COSH) buoyancy management system. This enables true VTOL flight without the external ballast or ground infrastructure required by other vehicles. By being able to control the vehicle’s heaviness, the Aeroscraft has eliminated the need for infrastructure and ground personnel.
