Complete with gothic revival windows and Bedford stone, the First Baptist Church Building of Middletown, Ohio stood since 1904. Now, with the help of 3D Engineering Solutions and under the direction of Reserections, Inc., the building has moved more than 1,000 miles to Bee Cave, Texas. In preparation for the move, 3D Engineering Solutions employed long range laser scanning and digital mapping to capture intricate details of the building that was then disassembled by hand and reconstructed upon relocation. 3D Engineering created a precise 3D CAD record of the position and orientation of each stone used to construct the church. “Our engineers captured data from many different lines of site using our Faro Focus 3D advanced long range laser scanner, which has a volumetric accuracy of 2mm,” said Rob Glassburn, 3D Engineering Solutions’ Vice President of Operations.
The 3D CAD model and data files generated by 3D Engineering Solutions were used by architects and engineers working to reconstruct the historic structure, which will be fully modernized and featured as part of an antique and architectural artifact mall near Austin. 3D Engineering Solutions ensured all internal and external surfaces of the structure were digitally preserved, helping to ensure reconstruction accuracy. A fly through video was created after scanning was complete.
