This is really a great organization that pushes women to face entrepreneurial challenges, but to do so together, and with the support of similar empowered women who have gone before them.
Reston, VA (PRWEB) June 20, 2013
At their annual banquet and luncheon on June 4th, the National Association of Women Business Owners’ Greater DC chapter swore-in Mina Fies, Founder and President of Reston-based design-build firm Synergy Design & Construction, as the organization’s incoming president for 2014.
Fies has served in the local NAWBO chapter (most recently as Membership Chair), as well as another chapter in Virginia Beach, for over 6 years. As president-elect, she will assume the presidency of the chapter in 2014 and will head up the organization’s board of directors, governing the chapter in conjunction with several co-chairs, as well as the previous year’s president (currently Jennifer Brand, principal at Brand Solutions Group).
NAWBO is the only dues-based national organization representing the interests of women entrepreneurs across all industries. The Greater DC Chapter works to promote interdependence among the more than 45,000 women business owners in the Washington, DC area. Started in 1975, the DC chapter of NAWBO was one of the first chartered chapters of the organization in the country. The organization is dedicated to creating useful programming for women seeking to start or grow their business, providing networking opportunities for women to meet like-minded entrepreneurs and gain advice while providing a single voice to shape economic and public policy.
As the founder of Synergy D&C, Fies has gained valuable insight throughout her career from NAWBO chapters, and is eager to give back to local women. “The community of women that comprises NAWBO Greater DC is one of the most dedicated and inspiring groups I’ve been a part of,” says Fies. “This is really a great organization that pushes women to face entrepreneurial challenges, but to do so together, and with the support of similar empowered women who have gone before them.”
Fies’ swearing-in to the future NAWBO presidency comes just a few months after her husband and business partner, Synergy D&C’s COO, Mark Fies, was presented as the new president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Metro DC chapter. Their company’s annual revenue grew by nearly 40% in 2012, and the Fies are eager to help others achieve the same success.
