With age comes a price, and it can come in the form of wrinkles, blemishes, sun damage, stretch marks, scars, and unwanted, exercise-resistant fat, but can thankfully all be treated with the innovative lasers and technologies available today. New York City Dermatologist, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, M.D., will be speaking on the topic of skin resurfacing at the 9th Asian Dermatological Congress held in Hong Kong in July; he will then be touring Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, exchanging his knowledge and expertise on the most innovative advancements in recent research and studies on lasers.

Laser technology has become the gold-standard for treating many conditions that had no solutions just 10 years ago.

For those seeking non-surgical solutions for skin tightening, body contouring, and pigmentation, laser dermatologists provide an expertise that’s unsurpassed. Dr. Cameron Rokhsar will be sharing his knowledgable experience, and discuss the latest advancements in laser surgery with other world leaders this July. The most prominent leading authorities on aesthetic surgery and cosmetic dermatology in the world will be attending the 9th Annual Asian Dermatological Congress hosted in Hong Kong. The progressive multidisciplinary meeting is designed to bring new aesthetic procedures, products and technologies through an interactive and educational format to provide important innovations and advanced educational experiences for the leading physicians.

Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, will present the most up-to-date research and his techniques for laser skin resurfacing. As an expert in the field of skin resurfacing using laser, light and ultrasound technology, Dr. Rokhsar will discuss the clinical applications of Fraxel Dual and Liposonix.

Fraxel relies on fractional laser resurfacing technology, which utilizes a laser to improve skin texture and is used to treat a variety of cosmetic and medical conditions such as acne scars, traumatic scars, fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and loose skin.

Fraxel Dual is one of the three Fraxel lasers available today; Fraxel Re:store, Re:pair and Fraxel Dual. The Fraxel Dual works with two different wavelengths in order to smooth out wrinkles with one wavelength and treat scars with the other. It is similar to the Fraxel Re:store system, which involves minor redness and swelling that can will decrease with after-care protocols, while the Fraxel Re:pair is distinguished by its ability to treat tissue deep within the dermis however the treatment requires more downtime. The Dual laser is equipped with a cooling system used to eliminate the need for an assistant. With only an hour of topical numbing cream for treatment, the procedure will be complete in 15 minutes.

The Dual is a non-ablative fractional thulium laser, which means it administers micro damage to the target areas of treatment, which in turn stimulates collagen production. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein responsible for keeping the skin tight and smooth. Located in the dermis, the layer located just beneath the epidermis, collagen has the ability to partially reverse the aging process. One of the best and most effective tools for ridding of wrinkles is the Fraxel laser.

Dr. Rokhsar was involved in the development of the Fraxel laser in 2003 and designed many of the protocols for treatment of wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and pigmentation currently in place.

He has trained more physicians on the use of Fraxel laser for fractional resurfacing in the world than any other physician. Dr. Rokhsar worked alongside dermatologist, Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick, and were the first physicians to introduce the clinical applications of the Fraxel laser technology.

The laser works by treating microscopic sections of the skin at a time, stimulating collagen production which creates a tighter and less wrinkled skin appearance. Collagen is the key protein in the skin structure. The more collagen production is encouraged, the more youthful the skin appears to be.

“Laser technology has become the gold-standard for treating many conditions that had no solutions just 10 years ago,” Dr. Rokhsar says. “They provide physicians with effective tools to treat a variety of conditions, including wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, stretch marks, unwanted fat and birthmarks.”

Non-invasive treatments can even serve as a promising treatment for modest fat reduction. Liposonix uses a high-intensity ultrasound therapy to target and destroy fat. Ultrasound is a safe alternative for those that are surgery averse, as it has been used as a medical treatment for physicians to monitor the progress of a woman’s pregnancy for years. This treatment can be used to selectively treat and get rid of fat that accumulates in the waist, abdomen, love handles and thighs. The non-invasive system works to permanently get rid of targeted fat in just one 1-hour treatment.

For those seeking a non-surgical treatment to slowing down the aging process, Ultherapy is a treatment that also utilizes ultrasound technology, but to tighten and lift the skin’s surface. Using the sound waves, Ultherapy uniquely provides the physicians with an image that is reflected back onto a screen. The sounds waves form a picture of what is inside the body that allows Dr. Rokhsar to actually see as he performs the procedure. The tiny deposits of ultrasound energy stimulate collagen growth below the dermis, which ultimately replaces and strengthens the older collagen. The targeted fat is then naturally processed through the body, which provides progressive results that can be seen within eight to 12 weeks.

The laser’s ability to treat skin in its foundational layers where problems such as exercise-resistant fat, wrinkles, unwanted scars, blemishes and stretch marks reside makes it the forefront of cosmetic and dermatological treatments for surgery averse patients.

Dr. Cameron K. Rokhsar, M.D., along with Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick, were among the first physicians to introduce the clinical applications of the Fraxel laser technology. As the leading authority on laser surgery and non-invasive techniques, Dr. Rokhsar, a fellowship-trained dermatologist and laser surgeon, has extensive training and expertise in the field of skin tightening and wrinkle reduction. A graduate of Harvard and New York University, Dr. Rokhsar is an extensively published medical author and Professor of Dermatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His offices are located in New York City and Garden City, Long Island.
