The International Institute for Analytics (IIA), the leading research firm focused exclusively on serving the business analytics industry, hosted its second annual Chief Analytics Officer Summit (CAO Summit) June 18-19 at the Union League Club of Chicago. The event featured an impressive network of Fortune 500 companies including Wal-Mart, Cigna, Boeing, Kraft, CVS Caremark, Bank of America and Citigroup, as well as IIA faculty and industry experts. IIA’s Research Director and analytics thought-leader Thomas Davenport, and IIA’s CEO Jack Phillips hosted the Summit. The annual event focuses on strategic leaders and decision-makers responsible for creating an analytically competitive organization.
CAO Summit is IIA’s signature professional gathering of analytics champions who come together to discuss and share the latest research findings and best practices in analytics. Designed to deliver tangible, thought-provoking strategies and tactics that can be applied to advance any analytics program, regardless of industry, this year’s CAO Summit attracted more than 150 invitation-only analytics leaders.
To maximize the impact of analytics, business leaders are concentrating on all areas critical to becoming an analytical competitor – data, enterprise approach, leadership, analytics targets and analytical talent. IIA’s annual Chief Analytics Officer Summit provides participants with actionable steps necessary to mature their organizations in each of these areas.

At the event, IIA announced the availability of its new DELTA-Powered Analytics AssessmentTM, which IIA and HIMSS Analytics designed to equip healthcare providers with a clear indication of their analytics programs’ strengths and weaknesses, and target areas to focus on to maximize success.
“The healthcare industry has a great opportunity to leverage analytics. In particular, analytics gives healthcare providers the tools they need to meet the federal Affordable Care Act requirements for more accountability and cost savings to consumers. Healthcare was also a focus at the welcome dinner on June 18 where the recipients of IIA’s Excellence in Analytics Award were announced. Usually reserved for one winner, this year’s award was given to UnitedHealth Group and Intermountain Healthcare in recognition of each organization’s use of analytics to drive critical business outcomes and the healthcare industry’s potential to make great strides by embracing analytics.
