[The deal] enables us to provide the leadership and strategy necessary to continue executing on our vision of bringing innovative, proven and result-driven information management and discovery solutions to our clients.

Morae Legal LLC, a full-service provider to law departments and companies, today announces that it has acquired the business and assets of CCIM Consulting, an advisory group established to provide a practical approach to managing electronic records and information. As part of the deal, CCIM partners Susan Chapdelaine and Jim Coulson have been named Managing Directors of Morae Legal.

Morae Legal delivers a holistic approach to address the needs of corporate counsel, with integrated solutions to help law departments improve their performance and impact on the corporation. “Companies require practical information management and compliance strategies that encompass the entire information life cycle,” says Shahzad Bashir, Morae Legal’s President & Chief Executive Officer. “With Susan Chapdelaine and Jim Coulson on board as Managing Directors, we continue to move away from the traditional expensive and reactive solutions in the market.” Morae Legal is all about innovations and shifting the paradigm. The company now offers a fully integrated information management and discovery solution, including comprehensive services for information management strategy and framework development, scalable implementation processes to drive compliance throughout the organization and support for ongoing program staffing. Morae Legal’s clients can choose its full-service offering providing cradle-to-grave management of information, or they can select component point solutions to meet their specific needs.

CCIM built its reputation by working together with its clients to develop practical strategies and business cases that align with the organization’s goals. Their process-centric approach aligns information governance policy and available technology with the business process to achieve compliance in the normal course of operations. “We accomplish this by working closely with IT, legal and internal business teams to understand the value of information and establish practical compliance measures. The result is a high level of user adoption, acceptance and ongoing compliance,” says Chapdelaine. “One of the things that attracted us to Morae Legal is its focus on innovative approaches linking information and discovery management, using analytics and metrics. We are excited to be part of this team raising the bar on what delivering results means.”

Susan Chapdelaine has over 25 years of experience in records and information management, and she led the records management practices at two major consulting firms before forming CCIM. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree and has worked in regulated and unregulated industries including pharmaceuticals, financial services, environmental services, energy and automotive, technology and professional services.

Jim Coulson has more than 35 years’ experience in records and information management. He is a certified records manager, co-author of Records Management Handbook and author of comprehensive records management software and a computer-based training module on records retention. Before forming CCIM, he was Principal of the Records Improvement Institute until it was acquired in 2005. Coulson has received the ARMA International Britt Literary Award, the ARMA International Award of Merit and the ARMA Canada Research and Development Award, as well as the Emmett Leahy Award, considered the highest global award in the records and information management profession.

“Bringing Jim and Susan on board enables us to provide the leadership and strategy necessary to continue executing on our vision of bringing innovative, proven and result-driven information management and discovery solutions to our clients,” says Bashir. “They are recognized leaders in this field, and we couldn’t be more delighted to have them on our team.”
