“Gordian Knots, Hottentots, and Elephant Amputees: The Lighter Side of Christianity” from Christian Faith Publishing author William G. Ivany is an engaging book of spiritual themes, satire, and revelations delivered with a generous dose of humor; advancing God’s kingdom, one chuckle at a time. Ivany forgoes the heavy-handed way of preaching Scripture and instead entertainingly—and reverently—discusses the many blessings and tribulations that come with the territory in any Christian’s walk of faith.

“Gordian Knots, Hottentots, and Elephant Amputees: The Lighter Side of Christianity”: a humorous commentary on the human aspects of faith and the church. “Gordian Knots, Hottentots, and Elephant Amputees: The Lighter Side of Christianity” is the creation of published author William G. Ivany, who was besieged by the Holy Spirit for months before finally relenting to write the book.

Ivany writes in the chapter on honor, “And yes, our wives’ opinion matters. I heard a female psychologist say that a woman’s brain can be compared to the internet (Dr. Caroline Leaf). A woman pulls in information from a lot of sources whereas men tend to have more of a one track mentality. So when the time comes for a major decision, any man who ignores his wife’s opinion and just bulldozes ahead is asking for trouble. God gave you your wife and he expects you to honor her.

Years ago, men would read Ephesians 5:23–24; and apparently ignored the next nine verses. The husband was the head of the wife and that was that. It was him first and her opinion didn’t matter. Hey! You’re supposed to give yourself FOR her! That means you put her wants and needs ahead of your own; JUST AS CHRIST DID WHEN HE SUFFERED AND DIED FOR US.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, William G. Ivany’s new book is a candid look at the heavier themes of Truth, fellowship, faith, pastors, and spiritual warfare—but also how often Christians tend to go about these things in amusingly wrong ways and how it’s okay, even necessary, to laugh about it.

Duly reverent where it counts and lighthearted where it doesn’t, Ivany’s book is a sparkling reminder that the Holy Spirit delights in good old-fashioned laughter, which often carries the best lessons necessary to defeat the devil’s religious brow-beating.
