The Martinez Clippers, a new expansion team in the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs, announce their 2018 inaugural season, with opening night set for May 31. The team opener will be held at the newly rebuilt Joe DiMaggio Fields at Waterfront Park at 6:30pm.

There has been much speculation about bringing a professional baseball team to Martinez, but when team owners and longtime Martinez residents Jeff and Paulette Carpoff saw the opportunity to do so, they seized it: “With the creation of the Clippers, we saw a way to honor the legacy of one of the city's great residents, Joe DiMaggio” said Paulette Carpoff. “We also saw a way to unite the community with a historically significant pastime that helped shaped the city's identity.”

The Clippers have launched their official website http://www.mtzclippers.com where the complete 2018 schedule can be found, as well as all additional team information.

The team is named for famed New York Yankee Joe DiMaggio, who was nicknamed "The Yankee Clipper" and was born in Martinez.
