NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 07, 2018
Web series "King Ester", created by award winning filmmaker Dui Jarrod, and starring Janet Hubert, launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Seed&Spark platform to acquire the remaining funds to complete the series. The New Orleans set web series wrapped filming in April and is now in post-production. The 30-day Seed&Spark campaign launched Friday, May 18th and will end June 16th.
Jarrod and Executive Producer Caralene Robinson chose the multifunctional Seed&Spark platform to “mobilize King Ester supporters and future audiences in an engaging and proactive way.” Robinson also adds, “The project attempts to explore the hardships faced by many in the trans community, serving as a powerful portal of compassion and visibility. We want audiences to feel connected from the beginning.”
The crowdfunding and entertainment hosting platform gives "King Ester" supporters and future audiences an engaging way to donate and contribute to the series ahead of its festival debut and subsequent tour. Seed&Spark gives artists a platform to host their creative works and also raise funds to enhance and complete projects. The Seed&Spark campaign features Jarrod tell the story – in written and video form – of how "King Ester" originated and details his personal connection to the story. Along the way, viewers are prompted to guidelines of tiered donation options and what each offer, including producer credits and invites to the premiere screening.
"King Ester" follows Ester (played by DeJaye Joseph), a transwoman from New Orleans destined for fame, forced to make a decision to leave before Hurricane Katrina arrives. But it may be too late. Veteran stage actress Janet Hubert (The Original Aunt Viv of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") plays Ester’s tough, but compassionate mother, Mignon Pappion. Actors Martin Bradford as King Pappion, Lindsay Smith as Ruth Pappion, L.J. Scott as Damien and Roland Lane as Elroy Lovelace round out the cast. The series will enter the festival circuit in the fall in hopes to be acquired and released by an OTT platform.
