6 Outdoor Area Spring Cleaning Tips from The Libman Company
Let Libman's commercial cleaning products help get your yard closer to summertime fun and relaxation
ARCOLA, Ill., April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Long winters can wreak havoc on a home's outdoor areas – from the grime and dirt that accumulate onto patio furniture to the mud and debris that litter the driveway and garage. With the relief of another winter under our belt is the drudgery of getting the yard and house in shape for warmer weather. The Libman Company, a 123-year-old American manufacturer of cleaning products offers some cleaning tips and a variety of cleaning products, including many from the company's commercial line, that can quickly whip your outdoor spaces into shape, just in time for summer entertaining season:
1) Remove driveway stains from decomposing leaves
If you didn't get a chance to rake all of your leaves last fall, there's a likelihood that the decomposing organic material is staining your concrete driveway. Sweep away the debris with a sturdy broom like the Libman 18" Multi-Surface Push Broom and then spray the stain with a garden hose. Next, scrub the stain with a non-metal brush (try the Libman Dual Surface Scrub Brush), then apply powdered dishwasher detergent to the stain while the concrete is still damp. Let the detergent set for a few minutes and repeat as necessary.
2) Clean outdoor door mats
Your door mat is a first defense to trap dust, dirt, and debris from getting into your home, so they naturally get pretty beat up after a long winter. First, shake out your door mat to loosen dirt and debris. If you've got a wicker mat, it's best to not get it wet, so just sprinkle a cup's worth of baking soda all over it to freshen it. Let it sit for ten minutes and then shake out. If the mat is made from vinyl or rubber, use some dish soap and warm water and scrub it with a brush.
3) Clean patio furniture and outdoor toys simply and effectively
Even if you've stored outdoor furniture and children's play equipment in a dry place for the winter, you'll still need to wipe down dust and grime that's accumulated. Use a mixture of warm water and a ½ teaspoon of dish soap and place the mixture in a spray bottle. Spray the furniture and wipe down with a Libman Microfiber Cloth.
4) Scrub decks naturally
For an inexpensive alternative to expensive deck cleaning products, try mixing equal parts warm water with white vinegar and baking soda and apply to the deck after thoroughly sweeping it. After applying the mixture and letting it sit for several minutes, use a Libman 16-oz. Cotton Deck Mop to clean the entire deck . The vinegar will kill off bacteria and fungi that have developed while baking soda deodorizes and refreshes. Rinse off the deck with a
garden hose and let dry. For stubborn stains, you may also need to scrub the deck thoroughly with a long-handled brush.
5) Rinse out trash cans
Outdoor trash cans can get pretty nasty after a winter's use. To remove dirt and odors from them, take your emptied trash can to a grassy area of your yard, or somewhere that you don't mind getting wet. Pour some liquid dish soap into the bottom of the can and let sit for a little while and then swirl it around. Next, rinse off the can with a garden hose on a high spray. Keep the lid off and let the can air dry.
6) Clean outdoor windows
To remove a winter's worth of grime and dirt, opt for a window washer with an extension handle such as the Libman Telescopic Window Washer. First wet the window with a hose, then use a mixture of warm water and vinegar, or a commercial window cleaner, to remove stains and clean the window. Rinse again with the hose and use the squeegee side of the window washer to wipe off excess water. Be sure to clean windows when the sun isn't shining directly on them. Sunlight dries the glass too quickly for you to clean it easily.
