A Free Back-to-School Playbook from the Constructive Dialogue Institute Helps Educators Foster Meaningful Dialogue
Educators can download a free playbook that provides a framework for facilitating classroom discussions that invite curiosity, promote inclusion, and encourage nuanced thinking.
NEW YORK, Aug. 16, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- To kick off the school year, the Constructive Dialogue Institute (CDI) released a new resource for educators, 2022 Back-to-School Playbook: Five Practices to Foster Constructive Dialogue in Your Classroom. The free, downloadable playbook is designed to aid secondary and postsecondary teachers in using dialogue as a learning foundation in their classrooms.
As political divides increase, the impact is rippling through our education systems. Curriculum and book bans are creating barriers to teaching and inhibiting dialogue about the most pressing issues of our time. Many educators, feeling unsupported and deterred, are retreating from the idea of classroom discourse. CDI, co-founded by psychologist Jonathan Haidt and Caroline Mehl, developed the playbook to show educators that dialogue doesn't have to be divisive.
"We want to support teachers in establishing healthy norms as the school year begins," said Jake Fay, director of education at the Constructive Dialogue Institute. "Our playbook outlines five proven practices that can help teachers structure classroom dialogue in a manner that invites nuanced thought, curiosity and openness to diverse perspectives."
