DSCC Reports Samsung Galaxy S10+ Has Generated Largest OLED Smartphone Panel Revenues in 1H 2019
Samsung and Apple smartphone models dominated the list of top models for OLED panel procurement.
AUSTIN, Texas, June 27, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Samsung Galaxy S10+ smartphone has generated the highest revenues for flexible AMOLED panel purchases in the first half of 2019, according to the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) Quarterly OLED Shipment and Fab Utilization Report. Panel revenues for the S10+ model are estimated at $860.7 million, based on Q1 actual shipments and Q2 estimates.
The list of the top 10 models with flexible AMOLED panels for the first half includes the flagship models for the top three brands in the smartphone space, Samsung, Apple, and Huawei. The top ten models with the associated panel revenues were:
- Samsung S10+, $860.7 million
- Apple iPhone XS Max, $817.5 million
- Apple iPhone XS, $627.0 million
- Samsung S10e, $524.4 million
- Samsung S10, $511.5 million
- Huawei P30 Pro, $501.0 million
- Samsung S8 / S9, $297.8 million
- Huawei P30, $222.6 million
- Samsung S10 5G, $183.1 million
- Samsung Note 9, $147.6 million
The report includes Q1 actual shipments plus DSCC's forecast by quarter for the rest of 2019 for smartphone models for the top brands, along with shipment data by application for ten different applications for OLED display panels.
For the second half of 2019, DSCC forecasts that the top models will be the successors to the iPhone XS and XS Max introduced later this year, with the combined revenues of two successor models to exceed $5 billion. Samsung's Note10 will lead a continued strong Galaxy lineup, while Huawei's Mate 30 Pro will lead that company's purchases.
The report also includes DSCC's five-year forecast for OLED panel shipments by application, screen size category, resolution, and substrate type and covers units, revenue, area, and average selling price.
OLED growing beyond smartphone adoption
By application, the smartphone revenue share is expected to fall from 85% in 2018 to 62% in 2023 due to declining prices for smartphone panels and faster OLED growth in other applications. OLED TVs are expected to grow from 8% of OLED revenues in 2018 to 17% in 2023, with units increasing to 15.5 million in that year. In addition, IT applications – Monitors, Notebooks, and Tablets will each approach or exceed $2 billion in revenues by 2023.
In 2019 the most stunning growth is among the emerging Smart Watch application for OLED panels, where shipments increased 124% year-on-year in Q1 and are expected to increase 28% for the full year to 63.9 million units. Even with the smallest average screen size of only 1.4 inches, Smart Watches will represent the third largest application in revenue terms, with $1.5 billion in Smart Watch OLED panel sales in 2019.
