Dayton Public Schools Receives $100,000 Instrument Donation in Support of Recent Rebirth of Its Instrumental Music Program
DAYTON, Ohio (PRWEB) March 05, 2019 -- Dayton Public Schools (DPS) received a significant boost today from Yamaha Corporation of America, which donated more than $100,000 worth of new percussion and wind instruments to the school’s music program.
The generous gift from the world’s largest musical instrument manufacturer was made in support of the district’s decision to restore its instrumental music program, which had been dormant for more than a decade.
The new instruments will impact more than 12,000 students who now participate in district-wide music programs at Dunbar, Thurgood, Meadowdale and Belmont high schools, as well as Wright Brothers, Wogaman and EJ Brown middle schools.
“Yamaha has been an extraordinary partner in helping to rebuild the instrumental programs in Dayton Public Schools and this donation will help us to continue to provide quality music education experiences to the students,” says Justen Seay, academic coordinator for Fine and Performing Arts, Dayton Public Schools. “We are proud of the progress that our programs have made and look forward to continued growth in the years to come.”
The instruments were presented during special ceremonies held on March 4 at Dunbar Early College High School and Thurgood Marshall STEM High School. Yamaha Senior Director of Education Marcia Neel and Yamaha Band & Orchestral District Manager Dave Clark made the presentation to Jeff Sherby, Dunbar Early College High School band director, as well as to Gary Jones and Jack Lambert, Thurgood Marshall STEM High School band directors.
“Supporting music education has always been at the heart of everything we do at Yamaha. Music programs provide a springboard for academic and personal success — and we are dedicated to providing substantial tools to music teachers so they can continue to support young musicians’ future success in life,” said Lisa Steele-MacDonald, director of marketing, Band & Orchestral division, Yamaha Corporation of America. “Contributing to a district that was without an instrumental program for over a decade is very rewarding, and we hope this donation by Yamaha to the district helps in continuing the student’s involvement in music and assists them in reaching their highest potential.”
