Faculty Guild Announces Partnership with The K. Patricia Cross Academy to Help Higher Education Faculty Accelerate Academic Innovation
In context of faculty members' professional goals, Faculty Guild will guide faculty to high quality, bite-sized teaching-technique videos and resources as part of its Reflective Teaching Fellowship
ARLINGTON, Va., June 27, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Faculty Guild, an educational technology organization empowering faculty communities to embrace evidence-based teaching practices to help students succeed, announced it has entered into a partnership with The K. Patricia Cross Academy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting faculty through free and openly accessible instructional videos and downloadable resources. The partnership reflects the shared goal of both organizations to help faculty nationwide accelerate academic innovation across their institutions.
Through the partnership, the Cross Academy's Teaching Technique Video Library of more than 40 instructional videos will be aligned to the Faculty Guild framework of evidence-based instructional practices. The videos will be recommended, together with other resources, by Faculty Guild facilitators to faculty fellows participating in its Reflective Teaching Fellowship.
"Rather than overwhelming faculty with content to consume, Faculty Guild provides a personalized learning experience where we connect faculty to the right resources at the right time," said David Yaskin, founder and CEO of Faculty Guild. "The video library from the Cross Academy is a great resource for our facilitators as they work with faculty to achieve their personal and professional goals. This is a win-win opportunity for everyone."
In the fall 2019 academic term, faculty from more than 70 higher education institutions will participate in the Faculty Guild Reflective Teaching Fellowship™. Each week of the term, through a facilitated, appreciative inquiry model, faculty reflect on their actual teaching. Concurrently—from their community of peers and facilitator—they receive encouragement to do more of what's working and inspiration to try new approaches. Now, through the partnership with the Cross Academy, Faculty Guild facilitators will have even more resources to recommend to faculty that connect to their goals for the week or term.
Higher education institutions are seeking scalable and measurable ways to engage and support their faculty communities as they dive into student success initiatives. In response, Faculty Guild powers structured, online learning communities to support faculty growth by bringing together a proven methodology, flexible software platform, dynamic network of faculty and facilitators and robust data insights. The partnership with the Cross Academy expands the resources that can be suggested by Faculty Guild facilitators to faculty as they explore evidence-based instructional practices.
"Faculty Guild is creating a new way for institutions to give their faculty—including part-time and full-time faculty—the time and space to reflect on their teaching," said Dr. Elizabeth Barkley, executive director of The K. Patricia Cross Academy. "All too often, faculty lack helpful examples of what good teaching looks like. Our video library is designed to do just that. Our partnership with Faculty Guild adds the personal element where faculty will be guided to our videos and resources at a time and place where they will have greater meaning and impact."
About Faculty Guild
Faculty Guild believes higher education can address hard challenges, especially helping more students succeed, when fostering an environment for faculty to co-construct a way forward. When supported well, we believe faculty are powerful student success game changers—made stronger by learning from each other, building a shared vision and improving together over time. We power structured, accountable online learning communities to support faculty growth tied to institutional priorities. Most institutions engage their faculty community through our Reflective Teaching Fellowship, which is designed to enhance the use of evidence-based teaching practices. Our approach has been tested by hundreds of faculty members and is based on more than six years of research, originally led by Dr. Gail Mellow.
