Franklin County Visitors Bureau Sees Thousands in First Month at Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (PRWEB) December 26, 2018 -- Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center, the new home of the Franklin County Visitors Bureau (FCVB), opened its doors at the end of November to serve as the gateway to Franklin County and is projected to see 2,000 visitors by the end of 2018.
The 11/30 Visitors Center is strategically located at these two main travel arteries of Chambersburg, the county seat of Franklin County, and establishes a gateway to explore Franklin County, PA. Self-guided tours and itineraries are available for visitors to learn more about the county and plan out their trips.
The grand opening, which took place on November 24, Small Business Saturday, had hundreds come through and tour the 11/30 Visitors Center. These visitors were the first to see exhibits on recreation, fresh food, arts, covered and stone bridges, and a focus on military history. Artifacts on display include items from the building when it was a bank and reproduction money. Other Franklin County-specific items from the 19th and 20th centuries on display including advertisements for the Capitol Theatre, Wilson College Commencement programs and more.
A silent auction of Civil War art raised $825 for Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County.
The Downtown Business Council of Chambersburg’s Christmas on Main and Cocoa Crawl event took place on the First Friday in December. This event brought in hundreds to try the special hot chocolate made by Franklin County Visitors Bureau and see Santa, who had set up a temporary shop in the center for December weekend visits for all ages.
In addition to these events, visitors from all over the country and county have come through the doors to learn what to do, see about the county in the restored 1865 bank building and begin trips to the county.
FCVB purchased the 10,000-sq.ft. brick and marble building at 15 South Main Street in December 2016. The property, constructed in 1865, served as a bank throughout its existence. Historically known as the First National Bank of Chambersburg and in later years, Unitas Bank and Sovereign Bank, it last functioned in May 2015 as Santander Bank. With $1.6 million in renovations, FCVB transformed the property to the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center to tell stories of history and humanity and share the county’s healthy fresh foods, inspiring art, architecture, and entertainment. The two main vaults of the bank remain intact. One hosts videos of the county and the other will hold the itineraries to help launch visitors throughout Franklin County.
