Governors and Mayors Across USA Join Good Days to Proclaim July 10 as Chronic Disease Day
PLANO, Texas (PRWEB) July 10, 2018 -- State governors and mayors of big cities and small towns across the United States joined the non-profit charitable organization Good Days and the non-profit patient rights group Chronic Disease Coalition to proclaim Tuesday, July 10, 2018 as Chronic Disease Day.
Chronic Disease Day is a grassroots initiative – individuals across the country collaborate with Good Days and the Chronic Disease Coalition to have their hometowns and states recognize the awareness day each year. Chronic Disease Day takes place on 7/10 to represent the seven out of ten Americans who succumb to chronic conditions such as all types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic and rare conditions.
This year, Good Days has made available a suite of free online public resources to help manage individual mental, physical and emotional well-being. ChronicDiseaseDay.org features free Self-Care Tips with suggestions to identify and cope with different forms of stress, improve exercise and diet, and find strength through personal support systems.

Governors of states across the country joined Good Days and the Chronic Disease Coalition to issue official Chronic Disease Day proclamations, including in Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia. Prominent cities that also issued Chronic Disease Day proclamations for July 10 include Albuquerque, NM; Hot Springs, AR; Knoxville, TN; Oklahoma City, OK; St. Louis, MO, among many others.
Access to medical care is often financially prohibitive for many Americans with chronic illness. Hundreds of thousands of Americans suffer from unpreventable and costly chronic and rare conditions. But the deadliest and costliest chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and obesity, are also the most preventable. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 25 percent of Americans have at least one chronic illness, and that number rises to 75 percent of adults aged 65 and older. It has been estimated that chronic disease accounts for 86 percent of the nation's $2.7 trillion annual health care expenditures.
Chronic Disease Day improves public knowledge of the risks of chronic disease and raises awareness on everyone’s opportunities to extend their quality of life and lower healthcare costs through preventative well-being practices. Good Days and the Chronic Disease Coalition collaborate with individuals throughout the United States to make annual requests for their hometown or state to recognize Chronic Disease Day.
