Is the grass greener on the other side? New biography depicts the hardships faced by many immigrants
Debuting author Toma Polić announces the release of 'Yes it is......'
PERTH, Australia, June 20, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Toma Polić has had a long-held desire to record the lives of his parents and the hardships they faced in Jugoslavia and Australia. Theirs reflect the experiences of many immigrants whose stories have not been fully told or indeed fully understood. It is for this reason that he decided to pen "Yes it is......" (published by Balboa Press AU).
This book chronicles the journey of the Polich–Katavich families who struggled with a meagre existence in Yugoslavia before migrating to Australia. It details their lives in Australia and the struggles that most migrant families endured in the period before and immediately after the Second World War. There is also a brief history of the country of their birth and its progress in the world after the defeat of the Austro–Hungarian and Nazi empires. The later part of the book describes the life of the author and his family and relations, and the achievements attained as intended by their parents when they decided to migrate.
"Readers will be happy that the efforts of these immigrants have been rewarded," Polić states. "It may even be a catalyst for them to resolve their own predicaments."
When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, the author answers, "An appreciation of others' troubles and experiences."

About the Author
The author, Toma Polić (Croatian notation), is the first-born son of Ante and Iva Polić. Both parents came to Australia before World War II in search of a better life. Foremost in their decision was the idea that they would give their children a better future than the one they had foreseen for themselves in their early years in Jugoslavia. Polić was therefore a first generation child of these immigrants and did indeed benefit enormously by their foresight, as did his children. He studied and worked relentlessly and achieved two university degrees. He and his siblings adapted very easily to the Australian way of life as did his parents as time wore on. He married an Australian girl and they successfully raised three sons. Now retired, he has endeavored to record for posterity and history the trials and tribulations experienced by his parents. Many other immigrants duplicated their experiences. The tough times touched upon in this book are to remind readers of easily forgotten experiences that made this country a preferred place of destination for economic refugees. This book will show some of the hardships experienced and endured by Ante and Iva and their three children — Toma, Ivan, and Joyce.
