Lakeville Native Finishes World Championship Horse Show Highly Decorated
Lakeville, MA (PRWEB) November 14, 2018 -- Medical Biology Student at the University of New England and Lakeville, MA native, Julia Moura, finished this year’s Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show® placing in ten categories. Moura competed at the Oklahoma City horse show competition in early October.
The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show® has been held annually since 1973 and each year over 1,000 owners and exhibitors compete.
Among the categories Moura placed in, she took home 1st place and Grand National Champion in four categories including Introductory Level Test B, Training Level Test 1, 2 and 3 Junior Exhibitor, and was named the World Champion in Introductory Level and Training Level Jr Exhibitor.
In this year’s competition, Moura dominated her categories with horse CBMF Gifted (aka “Sox”) owned by trainer, Katie Speer. The Winner, who has been riding horses since the age of seven, has been training with Katie Speer for seven years and Caitlin Lewis for nearly four years at Reevedale Farm in Middleboro, MA.
“I come from a really competitive family and I hadn’t found a sport to really compete in. When I fell in love with horseback riding, I didn’t even think of the competitive aspect of it,” says Moura. “When I went to my first horse show, my competitiveness started to come out. I wanted to win and I would work my hardest to do well. I also loved the atmosphere of horse shows. When you are at a horse show, it’s like you are with another family. The friends you make are friends for a lifetime, and I get to spend time with the thing I love most, horses. “
Before her success at the Morgan Grand National, Moura won at the Arabia Region 16 Championships two years in a row. She hopes to bring her new horse, Fenway, to future shows to compete.
There has been an outpouring of excitement and support from her local community, friends and family. Her father, Dave Moura, owner of New Bedford’s ProGroup Contracting, and the whole ProGroup team are celebrating the victory.
