Livestream Learning Studio’s Invigorates Edtech Post-COVID
Minneapolis, Minn. (PRWEB) May 12, 2023 -- “It’s working!” an enthusiastic Ward Eames notes. Eames, who also founded The National Theatre for Children, is referring to his more recent brainchild, Livestream Learning Studio (the Studio).
During and after COVID, it was clear to Eames that the learning landscape was rapidly changing, and in its wake, students were being left behind. Eames created the Studio in response, strategically combining academics, social emotional learning, and arts integration through live, real-time, theater-based events for students.
The goal? Reversing the learning loss resulting from the pandemic and teaching students in a way that engages and excites them.
“We need to teach students the way they want to learn,” Eames says simply.
Livestream Learning Studio is a digital platform that offers virtual, arts-integrated, live events for students in kindergarten through grade 5. The Studio’s programming receives rave reviews from its users, including teachers, administrators, and especially students, who love the Studio’s use of humor, fun, and technology during the weekly, livestreamed lessons.
“We wanted evidence-based research to back up what we already knew: the Studio is helping children learn in a logical, effective way,” Eames shares. To this end, Livestream Learning Studio engaged two independent research outlets to validate its approach.
A study by Dr. Catherine Atkinson, Ph.D. investigated the Studio’s programming to determine the efficacy of its elementary offerings. Specifically, Dr. Atkinson evaluated student content engagement in a science lesson, attitudes toward live theatre, and perception of social emotional learning (SEL) skills acquisition.
The research found the Studio’s program positively impacted student learning outcomes, with measurable benefits including an increased interest in science, improved academic content engagement, and enhanced SEL skills. The study also found students gained an increased sense of belonging among their peers following the event.
The Atkinson study results will be published in a forthcoming peer-reviewed journal article called “An Investigation of Livestreamed Theatre in the Elementary Classroom,” in the International Journal of Education and the Arts at Penn State University.
LearnPlatform by Infrastructure conducted the second study to provide research-based evidence of the Studio’s effective, logical programming. LearnPlatform tested the Studio’s logic model using the rubric for Level IV ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). Study results confirmed the clear rationale for the Studio’s offerings that was supported by previous research.
After studying potential outcomes of the Studio’s programming through its logic model, LearnPlatform predicts the following long-term outcomes – which will be evaluated in an upcoming Level III research study:
“Long term, students will measurably improve their academic outcomes and understand the value of the arts across different disciplines. They will build long-term tools for managing their well-being and be better prepared to navigate STEM and literacy challenges outside the classroom. Students will also gain knowledge in STEM and be better prepared to pursue STEM careers. Educators will foster a more positive school culture, feel more professionally supported and be more likely to remain in their role.”
Teachers can test drive the Studio’s current programming for free through the end of this schoolyear. Subscriptions for the 23-24 school year are offered for $615/ classroom and include supplemental resources like worksheets, lesson plans, and additional activities to ensure academic concepts are incorporated into the broader learning landscape. Programming will include literacy (for K-2 students) and STEM (for 3-5 grades). With over 600 shows planned, there’s never been a better time to subscribe!
