Majority of audiobook listeners spend up to 10 hours a week listening to audiobooks, Voices report finds
NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 21, 2023 -- Audiobooks are finding their place in the daily audio routine, Voices has found in its [Audiobook Listening Trends Report.
Each year, more readers are opting to press play over turning the page, making audiobooks the fastest growing book publishing format. Voices’ Audiobook Listening Trends surveyed hundreds of audiobook listeners to discover why, when, and how they’re fitting audiobooks into their daily routine.
“The shift to audio content will continue to grow as people tire from screen fatigue, but still crave media to help them learn, stay entertained, or stay informed,” says David Ciccarelli, CEO and Founder of Voices. “Longer form, audio-first experiences such as audiobooks are able to fill gaps in the daily routine while keeping consumers’ eyes and hands free.”
The report found that:
- 61% of Americans have listened to an audiobook in the last 12 months.
- Most (83%) of American audiobook listeners spend between 1-10 hours a week listening to audiobooks. 17% listen to audiobooks for 11 hours or more per week.
- The top reason for choosing audiobooks over traditional reading was for its convenience: listeners enjoy that audiobooks provide entertainment while freeing their hands and eyes (66%).
- One third (33%) of respondents said they appreciated that audiobooks cause less eye strain than reading.
- 30% of audiobook listeners say they find the audiobook experience more immersive than reading.
The report also reveals that part of the appeal of audiobooks is the experience a high quality narrator is able to provide. “By using various accents, dialects, and intonations, narrators add an extra layer of depth to the storytelling experience. Pair a well written book with a quality narrator, and the story comes to life in a completely new way,” says Ciccarelli.
