Seton Celebrates 35th Year at Annual Board Meeting and Awards Two Local High School Students Scholarships and Computers
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (PRWEB) July 28, 2018 -- During its July 17th, 2018 Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors, Seton Youth Shelters announced its officers and board members for the 2018-2019 year. Continuing as President is Reverend Mark Wilkinson, Rector of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church; Vice-President Dr. Maxine Singleton; Secretary James White Regional Director for Safelite; Immediate past President Dr. Steven Waranch; and Executive Committee Member Linda Spindel. Also continuing, are at-large board members Dan Barton, DDS, Becky Rankin, Kelly Rowe, Gerald M. Travis, Ros Willis, Esq., and Mandy Yoder. The newest board member, Patrick L. Maurer, Esq. of Pender & Coward Law Firm, was also welcomed to the Board of Directors at the meeting.
Following the business meeting and announcement of continuing officers, the organization presented two awards from the Yoder Family Scholarship fund. Along with a cash award, recipients received a Dell PC, keyboard and monitor courtesy of BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair. The two Yoder Family Scholarship recipients are Damon Rodgers and Clinton Reddick. Both Damon and Clinton are members of Seton Youth Shelters’ HYPE Program. HYPE stands for Helping Youth Pursue Excellence and is a youth volunteer organization for middle and high schoolers who give back to their community through service to others. “We are pleased to be able to offer Damon and Clinton assistance with their freshman year of college, thanks to the generosity of the Yoder family and BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair,” said Jennifer Sieracki, Executive Director of Seton Youth Shelters.
The first recipient, Damon Rodgers, is a 2018 graduate of Grassfield High School. Damon plans to attend Randolph-Macon in the fall where he plans to major in Biology and minor in Spanish. He then plans to enter into a pre-med program to become a Pediatrician. Damon is an exceptional student as shown by his 4.0 GPA and is also a member of the football and track teams at Grassfield. He has shown a dedication to his community through his volunteer work not only with HYPE but with the Hermitage Museum, National Autism Society, The City of Chesapeake Youth Advisory Board, Special Olympics, and many others. The second scholarship recipient is Clinton Reddick. Clinton is a 2018 graduate of Lake Taylor High School, and he plans to attend Norfolk State University in the fall to major in Engineering and/or Biology. He plans to pursue a career in IT Management. Clinton has been an active volunteer with HYPE and the Food Bank and is also involved in many events at his church.
Since 1985, Seton Youth Shelters has provided emergency shelter and crisis counseling for youth, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with the goal of reuniting youth and their families through solution-focused, reality-based programs at no charge to the child or their family. Each year, Seton serves more than 14,000 Hampton Roads youth with a focus on prevention, intervention, shelter and counseling. Through its shelter, street outreach and mentoring programs, Seton Youth Shelters is the region’s only organization devoted exclusively to providing shelter, counseling and outreach services to youth 9-17 in crisis and their families—24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at no charge to the child or their family. Seton Youth Shelters is celebrating its 35th year of operations and Executive Director Jennifer Sieracki stated “As we begin our 35th year, Seton looks forward to saving and changing the lives of the most vulnerable youth in our region—and beyond.”
