"Once Upon a Flame" Theatre Program Energizes North Carolina Students
GASTONIA, N.C. (PRWEB) October 10, 2018 -- PSNC Energy and The National Theatre for Children (NTC) have partnered to educate and inspire North Carolina students and their families by bringing energetic, science-based live performances into local elementary schools. From Oct. 15 to Nov. 16, professional actors from NTC will visit over 40 elementary schools to perform "Once Upon a Flame," sparking conversations on natural gas efficiency and safety in classrooms throughout PSNC Energy’s service area.
The program will focus on:
• How we use natural gas
• The geology and history of natural gas
• How to conserve natural gas
• How to be safe around natural gas
The live program is set in a fairy-tale world and follows TinkerFred, who discovers that the Wicked Witch of the Upper Northwest has been wasting natural gas. With the help of student volunteers, as well as colorful characters like Little Blue Riding Hood and Scratching Beauty, TinkerFred sets out to learn about natural gas and stop the Wicked Witch.
In addition to live performances, the program includes student playbooks (both print and online versions), teacher guides, infographic posters, and digital games and activities that align with the important concepts outlined in the live shows. PSNC Energy sponsors every aspect of the program, making the performances and materials a cost-free supplement to lessons in science, literacy and the arts.
“Live theatre is a great way to educate,” says NTC president and founder Ward Eames. “The show goes beyond reading or other more passive methods of engaging kids. These children are watching a story unfold right before their very eyes, with the two actors playing all sorts of characters. We don’t lose the kids’ attention for a minute, because they get to respond and interact with the show. It really sticks with them.”
