A New "Success Files" Segment will Cover the Importance of Athletics in Schools for PBS Member Stations
(PRWEB) September 04, 2017 -- Popular television and movie icon Rob Lowe hosts another critically acclaimed episode of “Success Files”, and this upcoming segment will focus on the Importance of Athletics in schools today.
Nearly 8 million students participate in school sports each year and that number has increased for 27 consecutive years. Boys athletics are dominated by 11-player football at nearly double the participation rate of runner-up track and field. The leading girls sports are almost equally track and field and volleyball.
The inherent value of providing athletic opportunities cannot be overlooked. Some students aspire to secure full or partial college scholarships to ease the financial burden of high education. Others have dreams of reaching the Olympics or becoming professional athletes. In addition to being a means to an end, sports help youths bond together in a positive fashion, build a sense of school pride and help improve health and fitness.
Being on a team also provides a learning environment about working together as a group with common goals. Students that are motivated by sports participation are required to maintain passing grades and keep up with their studies. With all the social media and other distractions, sports can be a motivating factor for focused education. As trends have shown, sports may help students win on a number of levels.
