In a newly released video, The American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) highlights considerations for why physicians choose ABPS for board certification.

National physician leaders from the medical community explain why physicians choose the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) for board certification, in a newly released seven minute video now posted on YouTube.

“The constantly changing face of medicine in the United States and Canada requires up to date support for physicians in a growing field of medical specialties,” said ABPS CEO William J. Carbone. “That’s why ABPS works to effectively offer certification in new specialties as well as traditional ones, and also recertification to both ABPS and non ABPS boarded physicians.”

One of the physician leaders on the video, Cyril H. Wecht, M.D., J.D., of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, highlights one of ABPS’ newest boards, the American Board of Disaster Medicine (ABODM). Dr. Wecht explains why ABODM is a valuable resource to the medical community: For example, “Coroners and medical examiners, by definition, are going to be involved in every single disaster situation in which there is one fatality or thousands of fatalities.”

ABPS uniquely and effectively blends the ideas and approaches of both allopathic and osteopathic training into its physician board certification programs. Carbone added, “ABPS Member Boards advance the art and science of medicine and promotion of public health by engaging inclusive dialogue between allopathic (M.D.) and osteopathic (D.O.) physicians.“

ABPS is the official certifying body of the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc. (AAPS) and has Diplomates in all fifty states and Canada. Since 1950 it has set and maintained high standards for physicians to demonstrate that they have an appropriate core body of knowledge and skills for certification and maintenance of certification.
