Allegheny Health Network, Breathe PA, Challenge Community to Help Raise Awareness and Defeat Lung Cancer
PITTSBURGH (PRWEB) November 17, 2017 -- Lung cancer is one of the most common and most deadly cancers, and smoking is the biggest risk factor. Increasingly, poor and minority populations make up the largest number of smokers, and reaching these people with effective smoking cessation programs is critical.
Now Allegheny Health Network (AHN), in conjunction with BreathePA, is supporting smoking cessation efforts with a unique social media campaign. With a simple social media post, anyone can contribute to BreathePA’s important efforts to curb smoking among people from marginalized populations.
To contribute:
• Take a photo of one of AHN’s unique displays highlighting smoking cessation and lung cancer survivorship. The displays are located on the Sandusky Street side of Allegheny General Hospital, at Penn Avenue Place and Stanwix Street, and on sidewalks in a variety of city locations, including West Penn Hospital, Liberty Avenue, Boulevard of the Allies, Fifth Avenue, Federal Street, Butler Street, the Clemente and Rachel Carson bridges, and Fort Duquesne Boulevard.
• Post the photo publicly on social media and tag @AHNToday
For each tagged photo, AHN will donate $10 to Breathe PA’s smoking cessation programs.
“While we’ve made great strides in reducing smoking rates, much work remains to be done, particularly in minority and disadvantaged communities,” said Lana Schumacher, MD, AHN thoracic surgeon. “We are proud to support Breathe PA with this social media promotion and hope it will raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and the continued need for education and support for those who want to ‘kick the habit.’”

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and on Great American Smokeout Day, AHN is working to bring attention to the health threats posed by smoking, and to help BreathePA help smokers become non-smokers.
