Amanda Norton of CrossFit Marin Finishes 17th at NorCal CrossFit Games
(PRWEB) June 21, 2014 -- Coaching at a gym has its advantages. And for Amanda Norton, Gymnastics Director at The Cave/CrossFit Marin, coaching has enabled her to take her own workouts to a rather insane level.
Recently, the former competitive gymnast competed in the Open, a worldwide competition in CrossFit, the fitness program that is becoming increasingly popular in gyms all across the United States.
Roger Harrell, co-owner of The Cave/CrossFit Marin, was at Regionals along with Amanda Norton’s coach and CrossFit Director, Bo Winegarner, supporting her during the 3 day event.
"We are so proud of Amanda. She came into this event 38th in the region and left the event 17th in the region. She got into the top heat for part of the competition and got to compete head to head with the best of the best." Roger Harrell continues, "It is important to note that over the past few years Amanda has picked a few of the regional qualifiers to target. She has now surpassed them. Guess what Amanda? There are going to be other women in the region targeting you as the scores to beat. Congratulations!!"
The NorCal Region is considered one of the toughest CrossFit regions to qualify for and compete in. You'll often see athletes that would easily place higher in other regions not even qualify for the games in NorCal.
“Athletes were tested through seven different grueling workouts or events,” Bo Winegarner said. “Body weight movements, strength movements, barbell movements, weightlifting movements, gymnastic movements… basically they try to test you in all different areas to see who is the strongest, who has the most endurance, who has the best flexibility, power…everything.”
Bo continues: “Amanda's training program was designed to cover all the elements she needed. We had to train endurance, body weight strength, weightlifting, and develop other skills. This year they had strict hand-stand push-ups, a skill she had to quickly master.”
In addition to learning how to perform a strict hand-stand push-up, Amanda said she cranked up her workouts leading up to the competition. “It really takes a lot of training,” she said. “I have to force myself to work on my weaknesses because if you have a weakness in a certain area it will definitely get exploited.”
“It’s a lot of challenging workouts, a lot of strength training, pushing yourself with the endurance and pushing yourself into that uncomfortable zone repeatedly… I guess you have to have a passion for doing that to yourself. But it’s always rewarding. You always feel so great after and that’s what keeps me doing it. I love the competitive side of it and I love how you feel after doing it and the rewards you get from it.”
Amanda Norton is now headed as a coach to The CrossFit Games with an astounding 61 year old athlete from The Cave/CrossFit Marin, Bill Berry. Bill is the first member to join CrossFit Marin, and The Cave community is excited to watch this pastor shine.

You have more energy, you are going to feel better and you are going to be able to do more things.
