Through the event, titled “Power in Your Palm,” Lipford explained how homeowners can utilize technology to automate their homes and manage systems from the convenience of a smart phone or mobile device, making them more comfortable, efficient and safe.
Lipford connected with 22 TV and radio hosts across the country with his smart-home advice. “We all spend time away from our homes, but with today’s home automation technology, you can control and monitor just about any system no matter where you are – all from the convenience of your phone,” he says.
Broadcasting live from Mobile, AL, Lipford introduced viewers to the automation hub he recently had installed at his own home. As part of the Côr system from Carrier, the hub connects and communicates with major home systems such as heating and cooling, water monitoring, security, electrical and more. After professional installation, homeowners can access, monitor and adjust settings remotely via the system’s mobile app. “Left the lights on? Forget to close the garage door? Want to warm things up before arriving home in the evening? These are all things you can manage remotely with a home automation system, and have peace of mind no matter where you are,” says Lipford.
With winter storms, snow and ice on the way, many homeowners are opting for standby generators to keep things running smoothly in the event of power outages. Lipford shared a home innovation from Generac, called Mobile Link™, which allows users to monitor the status of their generator from anywhere using a smartphone, tablet, or PC. The technology offers automatic push notifications when there’s a change in status, and will even notify a local dealer directly if service is needed.
While adding a home automation hub or standby generator requires professional installation, Lipford rounded out the event by suggesting several DIY home innovations. “Video doorbells are very popular, affordable and provide added security - especially around the holidays with increased package deliveries and risk of theft,” he says. Another option he recommended included a Remote Lync monitor from Kidde, which plugs into a regular electrical outlet. The monitor communicates with the home’s smoke alarm and sends an alert to any mobile device if a problem is detected.
