Los Angeles family law attorney and author Barry Fischer recently published “Through My Father’s Eyes,” a book about the Holocaust told from the perspective of a survivor.

However, this story is told from the perspective of a survivor, my father, not a victim. My goal was to inspire, rather than cause people to turn their heads and look away. It’s about how true and lasting love can be found despite unimaginable losses.

By writing this book, Fischer, a Certified Family Law Specialist, ensured the words of his father, Mayer, were put into print and not forgotten, and that after 70 years of hearing stories about the Holocaust they remain as relevant as ever. “Through My Father’s Eyes” recounts the atrocities and reality of life in Poland, the ghetto and the concentration camps during WWII.

“This book depicts how families were brutally and abruptly torn asunder. How husbands and sons were separated from wives and daughters, many never to see each other again,” said Fischer, who has appeared on French TV examining the high-profile Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt divorce and child custody case.

Through My Father’s Eyes” shows how work was impossible on the meager rations people were fed, yet still accomplished, and how death was part of everyday life. “However, this story is told from the perspective of a survivor, my father, not a victim,” added Fischer. “My goal was to inspire, rather than cause people to turn their heads and look away. It’s about how true and lasting love can be found despite unimaginable losses.”

Barry Fischer grew up in a deeply loving and devoted family. While his mother, Blima, chose, as many survivors did, to put the past behind her, his father, Mayer, took another path. He made telling the tales of his Holocaust experience a part of a caring family environment. Mayer lived in the Krakow Ghetto and survived the Plaszow Concentration Camp, the Mauthausen Concentration Camp, the Melk Concentration Camp, and Ebensee, where he and his brother Nathan were liberated by the Allies in 1945.
