This Black Friday online sales are expected to increase 8% and in-store sales expected to decline by at least 1% (National Retail Federation, 2009). "We suspect that this Black Friday will see more online-savvy shoppers than ever before," says Naomi Berg, social marketing specialist for Sierra Trading Post. "This is a perfect opportunity for a Black Friday contest because of the decline in overall spending and the increased use of social marketing sites such as Facebook and Twitter. As far as we can tell, no other retailers are doing anything quite like this."
Since retailers have experienced stagnant growth in traditional marketing channels due to a turbulent economy, many have began to turn to social and interactive websites. Sierra Trading Post continues to be among those taking alternate marketing routes by stretching even further into a new avenue of media to creatively present unique contests and prizes as well as its message of "Great Deals. Great Brands." Following the Free Black Friday contest, customers can look forward to the Cyber Monday contest. Details will be announced on Black Friday.
