Blow Up Doll Video Sheds Light on Global Issue in The Principal's Music Video Debut
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 -- In this wild special fx driven video, writer / director David N. Donihue tells the tale of a blow up doll who one day gets fed up, attacks her owner and joins forces with others as they drive around Los Angeles freeing all of the blow up dolls from captivity. They have been slaves for far too long. And now, on November 5th, they will take to the streets and march for their rights. They blow up massage parlors. They make headlines. These dolls, will not back down or mask their fury.
While the set up is ridiculous, the numbers in the middle are real. Human Trafficking is finally coming into the forefront as a serious topic of conversation. Packed with real facts and massive amounts of metaphor, Shock To The System presents the painful reality of how big of a business modern day sexual slavery actually is.
According to the Urban Institute’s 8 city study, sex trafficking yields higher revenues than both drugs and guns in most urban markets.
The multi-billion dollar industry is well organized but can be deleted if the victims, ie; prostitutes, leave their captors and the customers realize that in most cases, they are paying to rape a kidnapping victim. The approach of viewing prostitutes as trafficking victims who need to be rescued has recently been lauded by the FBI and the UN as the best approach to a situation that is largely ignored. Rescue the victims, take down the profiteers.
Selling people generates more money than selling drugs in US Metros, even while prices for sexual services are often as low as $15.
Over 250,000 victims are trafficked in the United States each year. It is estimated over half are under 18.The majority are US citizens. Many are kidnapped as children. Others are convinced by social circles during high school and colleges years. Some are convinced by friends and family members. Pimps pretending to be boyfriends in the beginning is the most common way of acquiring new victims.
Recent studies show that if a prostitute is rescued into proper care upon arrest and given shelter, resources and opportunity, she is unlikely to return to the occupation. Yet, only if proper care and intervention are involved she will leave. Of 52 arrested females who were rescued into social service programs, only four of them returned, according to statistics on a new program initiated by Anaheim Police Department.
In Shock To The System, Donihue tells the story of women and men choosing to leave their captors for a better life and rescue others from danger along the way.
Donihue used a combination of old school puppeteering with modern rotoscoping to make dolls walk through downtown Los Angeles.
“CGI is soulless.” says Donihue “You won’t get the real movements and you won’t get the feeling that these things carry. A puppet, mannequins, dolls, They all sort of come with a certain feeling of soul. It’s like they collect the energy of their environment and wear it on their sleeves. Puppets and dolls have always created profound stirrings in people. It was evident, that we had to shoot the real deal on location. There was no other way.”
Donihue shot the scenes in Downtown Los Angeles at 6:30 am with staff posted at corners to ensure the dolls were covered if a child was seen on the street.
“It made it difficult. The whole video takes place outside and every time we rolled camera, some dude would drive by yelling 'Yeaahhhhhhh!'. Howling laughter coming from the windows of the towers and buildings. I generally request no pictures be posted on social media when in production. I felt like an idiot requesting it this time, as after 5 minutes of shooting a good half dozen people were already snapping cell phone pics from their cars. And all I could think was, I really hope my mother doesn’t see this #$%^…”
Donhue’s long history as an experimental filmmaker and critically acclaimed writer includes the 4 ½ hour interactive break up saga, The Weathered Underground (staring Brea Grant), the upcoming mainstream action flick The Bang Bang Brokers and new music videos for Bipolar Junction and Alexei. He also served as writer on the highly controversial film Parzania and has directed over thirty short films and music videos in the past decade. Shock To The System is the 9th Music Video Donihue has directed this year.
Donihue felt SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM was the perfect track for this story. "It rocks! It has all of the nuance and irony and hookiness to carry such a wild video. Zoltan and his bandmates are masters at creating a hook that gets stuck in your head and it is perfect for such a shocking video. I love those guys" Says Donihue.
The Principal’s debut single, ‘Shock To The System’ is a rich guitar driven rock track with a pop - punk - stomp twist that kicks off with a guitar riff and chorus that creates instant
credible appeal.
The professional Australian outfit from Melbourne created their forthcoming full length debut in a seaside St Kilda dungeon, surfacing with a unique, diverse and powerful sound that crosses multiple boundaries.
Leading the band is the 29 year old charismatic singer, guitarist, co-songwriter and co-producer Zoltan Glass who co-owns his label, management and publishing company, enabling him the creative freedom most artists can only dream of.
Seasoned musicians Quan Tyler on drums, Peter Milan on bass and Sam Cassidy on additional guitars complete the groups lineup.
