Breast Lift Vs. Breast Augmentation Compared in New Article by Dr. Bryan McIntosh
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) April 19, 2014 -- In the 2013 alone, over 23,000 breast augmentations were performed. The breast augmentation procedure is one that Americans have been familiar with for decades. The result of this ongoing interest is a well-developed, safe cosmetic procedure that is a viable and even inexpensive way for women to rejuvenate their bodies. However, there is another up and coming procedure, known as a breast lift, that Dr. McIntosh highlights in a recent article as an excellent, and even sometimes better, option for women seeking breast surgeries.
As the article explains, a breast lift, also called a mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and using sutures to reshape the breast tissue and re-drape the surrounding skin. Women that are seeking reconstruction due to age and years of breast-feeding but still have plenty of breast tissue will usually be better suited for a breast lift, as this procedure does not increase the size of the breast. Instead, it lifts the breast tissue back up to it’s proper place, giving the appearance of younger, fuller breasts.
“In some cases,” the article says, “ a dual-procedure will need to be performed, combining the breast lift and breast implants. Your plastic surgeon will have the experience to assess whether you will make a good candidate for either one, or both, of these procedures. A good surgeon will not only understand your desires, but he or she will also help to recommend what possibilities are available for you.”
Dr. Bryan McIntosh also gives a little tip on how women can judge for themselves which type of procedure may be suit them. The article references a test suggested by Dr. Robert X. Murphy, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in which women lift their breast tissue and place a pencil beneath it. If it stays in place after releasing the breast, a breast lift or combination lift and implants will likely be the suggestion at the tip of the plastic surgeons tongue.
